Cyclamen mirabile ‘Aurora’

’Aurora’ was registered on 5 October 2025 by Mr Kentaro Nemoto and Mrs Ayako Ozawa, based at the Hara Nursery, Japan. (See also Cyclamen hederifolium subsp. hederifolium ‘Verde’.)

This is a green-stemmed form of Cyclamen mirabile. Mr. Kentaro Nemoto has crossed it several times to make this trait stable and the offspring are 80% true to type. 

A characteristic of C. mirabile ‘Aurora’ is that it develops with green pedicels, whereas the petioles are red. The leaves have a silvery colour and a hastate (Christmas tree) pattern that is flushed with red. Provided they are kept in good light the leaf pedicels are short, resulting in a plant with (as in the wild in similar conditions) a nice compact habit. The ‘red’ leaf suffusion dissipates after a few weeks. The flower colour ranges from pink to white. 

The cultivar is named after Aurora, the Roman goddess of dawn and the green colour of the Northern Lights. They had difficulty deciding on a name for this C. mirabile cultivar. One of their friends came up with ‘Aurora’ and since it perfectly matched the image they had in mind, they were happy to adopt the name.
