Cyclamen mirabile is one of the more restricted of the Turkish species and, as such was felt to
be a prime candidate for detailed field studies. Little was required in the way of taxonomic study
as it is morphologically distinct from all others, even if the flowers are superficially
somewhat similar to those of C. cilicium.
Nevertheless there was plenty of scope for mapping its distribution, filling in
the finer details of its habitat and associated plants and recording the natural
variation within populations. Also an assessment of its current rarity status
was deemed desirable, as were observations concerning threats to its
continued existence.
A report of the 2003 field study was published in the
Cyclamen Society Journal Vol. 28 No. 2, December 2004.
